Transportation in Turku

Turku's public transport runs on the Föli network, a regional bus system covering the city and surrounding municipalities. For most visitors, buses are the practical backbone of getting around. The Föli app lets you buy tickets directly on your phone. Set this up before you arrive. It saves you fumbling for cash or figuring out ticket machines. The city centre is compact enough that many attractions along the riverbank are walkable once you're in. Don't reflexively bus everywhere. Your feet are often the faster option between the cathedral, the castle, and the market square. The airport sits only a few kilometres from the city centre. A Föli bus route connects the two at a fraction of what a taxi will cost you. Check the Föli journey planner for current stop locations and frequency before you land. Taxis are available but represent a genuine splurge for what is a short transfer. Save them for late arrivals when bus service has wound down for the night. If you're continuing onward to Stockholm, the Viking Line and Tallink Silja ferry terminals are west of the centre. Confirm the terminal location before you leave your accommodation. They are not in the city core. The walk is not intuitive. What to skip: don't assume the same Föli ticket covers travel all the way to the ferry terminals without checking the zone boundaries first.
